Coaches

Four coaches, forty-seven years. The two at the top run their sides of the gym; the two below them keep the kids sharp and the adults breathing.

Portrait of Lucia Ramos, Head boxing coach

Lucia Ramos

Head boxing coach · Sunrise + Fundamentals

Clean basics for total beginners and sharper tools for fighters

Lucia threw her first punches at nineteen in a Tucson rec-center program and took the Arizona Golden Gloves at 141 pounds in 2016. She boxed pro for three seasons, going 4–3 before a hand injury closed that chapter — ask about the hook that did it. She relocated to Austin in 2017 and has led our boxing program since we opened in 2019.

Her room stays calm and exact. New faces hear the same two notes for weeks — hips beneath you, hands back home — until the notes retire themselves. Contenders get pad work that looks gentle from the seats and feels like anything but. Ask about the 2016 final; she'll call it round by round while you work.

Somchai Phan

Head Muay Thai coach · Fundamentals + Clinch Night

The clinch game, knees, and composure

Somchai logged 61 bouts across Thailand's northeast, most on small cards near Ubon Ratchathani with two nights at Lumpinee. He first coached in America at a Dallas gym in 2016, then joined us for opening year after a winter of Lucia's phone calls. His classes stay quiet — he'll simply step in and set your elbow himself.

Friday Clinch Night belongs to him: sixty minutes of inside control, turning knees, and sweeps, shown the way he absorbed it — patiently, then all at once. Fight team members get him in their corner at Texas shows. The rest get his silent pass-bys, which correct more in a glance than a season of footage.

Portrait of Marcus Bell, Boxing coach

Marcus Bell

Boxing coach, kids and teens · Tue + Thu 4:30

Kids aged 7 to 12, plus grown-ups trying their first class

Marcus grew up in Montopolis and fought amateurs from San Antonio to Corpus Christi until he hung them up at 24. He works days at a Del Valle charter school and coaches our 4:30 kids room twice weekly. Families now reserve by his name, and his Thursday group filled fast enough to split in two last fall.

His kids hour plays like recess in gloves: cone footwork, noodle jabs, bag relays. Sparring stays off the menu for ages 7 to 12, always. Steady teens graduate to adult Fundamentals carrying Marcus's note, which opens doors here.

Portrait of Dana Whitaker, Conditioning coach

Dana Whitaker

Conditioning + Muay Thai coach · Sat 9 AM, Mon + Wed 7:30

An hour of hard work scaled for stiff shoulders and desk legs

Dana ran cross-country at Texas State and walked into Muay Thai at 26, which she still credits for her patience with newcomers. She fought five times under TBA rules, all inside Texas, going 4–1. She leads Saturday Conditioning at nine plus Monday and Wednesday Muay Thai Fundamentals.

Her conditioning hour is the building's motor: bodyweight rounds, heavy-bag stints, core finishers, each scalable both ways. Desk workers finish it, fighters lean on it, and the Saturday 9 AM crew votes a worst station weekly in a thread Dana claims she never opens.

Private sessions with any coach are included twice a month on Fight Team, or bookable through the desk for everyone else. The fastest way to meet all four is a free week: one Fundamentals class, one Sunrise, one Saturday Conditioning.
