Sunrise Boxing

Monday, Wednesday, Friday · 6:00 AM · 60 min · Lucia Ramos

Shadow rounds open it, bag rounds fill the middle, then paired pad work with Lucia coaching hands along the rows. The room empties by seven since most of us clock in at eight, and the showers free up by 7:10.

Boxing Fundamentals

Tuesday, Thursday · 6:30 PM · 60 min · Lucia Ramos

Footing, the jab, and traveling without tangling your feet, taught inside a repeating six-week cycle — join on any Tuesday. Contact stays out of this room, and Lucia keeps it that way.

Muay Thai · Beginner

Muay Thai Fundamentals

Monday, Wednesday · 7:30 PM · 75 min · Dana Whitaker

Push kicks, round kicks, and checks, drilled barefoot on the rear mats. Dana gives the opening quarter hour to shins and ankles, since sore legs sideline more beginners than anything else.

Portrait of Lucia Ramos, Head boxing coach

Lucia Ramos

Head boxing coach

Clean basics for total beginners and sharper tools for fighters

Lucia threw her first punches at nineteen in a Tucson rec-center program and took the Arizona Golden Gloves at 141 pounds in 2016. She boxed pro for three seasons, going 4–3 before a hand injury closed that chapter — ask about the hook that did it. She relocated to Austin in 2017 and has led our boxing program since we opened in 2019.

Somchai Phan

Head Muay Thai coach

The clinch game, knees, and composure

Somchai logged 61 bouts across Thailand's northeast, most on small cards near Ubon Ratchathani with two nights at Lumpinee. He first coached in America at a Dallas gym in 2016, then joined us for opening year after a winter of Lucia's phone calls. His classes stay quiet — he'll simply step in and set your elbow himself.

Marcus Bell

Boxing coach, kids and teens

Kids aged 7 to 12, plus grown-ups trying their first class

Marcus grew up in Montopolis and fought amateurs from San Antonio to Corpus Christi until he hung them up at 24. He works days at a Del Valle charter school and coaches our 4:30 kids room twice weekly. Families now reserve by his name, and his Thursday group filled fast enough to split in two last fall.

Portrait of Dana Whitaker, Conditioning coach

Dana Whitaker

Conditioning and Muay Thai coach

An hour of hard work scaled for stiff shoulders and desk legs

Dana ran cross-country at Texas State and walked into Muay Thai at 26, which she still credits for her patience with newcomers. She fought five times under TBA rules, all inside Texas, going 4–1. She leads Saturday Conditioning at nine plus Monday and Wednesday Muay Thai Fundamentals.

Lucia Ramos heads the boxing program and Somchai Phan heads Muay Thai, and together they carry thirty three years of coaching into every week.

First sparring invite, fall 2025

I joined Boxing Fundamentals on a Thursday and parked at the rear for two months straight. Lucia never singled me out for lurking there; she only drifted past to adjust my guard. Last fall I finally sparred three rounds in Saturday's open session.

Sunrise every weekday at 6 AM

Two children plus a downtown job leave me one free hour: six in the morning. Pads with a partner, rounds on the bags, and I'm rebuilt by eight at my desk. Early Bird might as well carry my name.

Saturday regular, first row

Ten-hour desk days had me scared of blowing out my shoulder, I confessed to Dana. She dialed each station down for weeks like it was nothing. These days I finish the whole hour — and my cousin comes too.

Muay Thai, Monday and Wednesday nights

Somchai gave my opening month to the push kick and zero else. I braced to get bored. Wrong. When it finally cracked clean in week six, the whole rear row turned around. Finest noise I've ever produced.

Fundamentals, Thursday evenings

I arrived at 43 never having swung at anything. Marcus grouped me with fellow first-timers; zero contact, zero showing off. Eight months on I've finished the full cycle twice, and the jab finally makes sense. My guard still drops when I'm tired, and Marcus still notices.

Fight team, TBA debut spring 2025

I asked Somchai about competing; he answered fine, Friday nights, show up on time. Twelve months of clinch work later he worked my corner personally. We dropped the decision and I've never stood taller.

08Who we are

Seventh year in East Austin

Lotusfall began inside a converted garage off Springdale Road during spring 2019, with five bags and a ring we hauled down from a shuttering gym in Temple. Boxing answers to Lucia Ramos, Muay Thai to Somchai Phan, with thirty three combined years of coaching between them. We aren't cardio with gloves on: we teach an actual jab, and it takes longer than anyone hopes. Roughly half our members will never compete, and across seven years that has never mattered once.
