About this classMuay Thai · Beginner
Monday, Wednesday · 7:30 PM · 75 min · Dana Whitaker + Somchai Phan
Muay Thai blends fists, elbows, knees, and shins, and we layer them in singly on the rear-wall mats. Each session opens with fifteen minutes for shins and ankles — rope work, stepping, gentle bag taps — since tender legs bench more newcomers than anything in month one. All later skills stack onto warm, prepared limbs.
Dana calls the session while Somchai roams it — nudging elbows, rotating hips, tapping whichever rib you've left open. He wastes few words. Give it a season and your round kick will crack differently, and you'll know precisely who to thank.
Less than you fear, because we start light. Bag taps before pad rounds, pads before hard rounds. Most students are kicking comfortably by week six.
No. The punches are taught from zero. Boxers pick up the hands fast and spend their energy on kicks; total beginners learn everything in order.
Shorts you can kick above your waist in, a shirt you can sweat through. No shoes on the mats, ever.
Friday Clinch Night opens once a coach invites you — usually after a few months of Fundamentals. Ask Dana after any class.
